The January recruitment period proves to be a time of feverish speculation and possible major deals. A number of notable stars find themselves connected to moves away from their current teams. Here is a look at some of the major names that could be on the move in January.

A. Semenyo

Although Ghana's inability to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations, this has left the forward available, reports suggest a significant move is close. The 25-year-old possesses a contract with a sizeable buy-out clause active for a two-week window at the start of the month. Latest developments point to the Premier League champions are now the frontrunners for his signature. Former suitors like Tottenham and Chelsea are said to have turned their attention to other targets, leaving clubs such as Liverpool or Manchester United to make a late move.

M. Guéhi

The England defender has continued to excel for Palace despite a previous move to Anfield collapsing. As his deal due to run out in the summer, January is the London club's last opportunity to obtain a transfer fee for their skipper. A host of elite sides, including City and several continental powerhouses like Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich, reportedly hold an interest. However, a winter exit is considered unlikely, particularly given the coach's dependence on the player.

B. Johnson

The Wales forward has had first-team minutes hard to come by at Spurs this term. Although being the club's leading goalscorer last season, Johnson has begun just a handful of league games. It is understood the London outfit would be willing to consider a transfer for the correct price, believed to be in the region of £40 million. This experienced Germany goalkeeper is now as third-choice at Barcelona under the coach Hansi Flick. After lost his place and undergone an operation, a winter departure seems highly probable. K. Smit

This much-admired Dutch midfielder has drawn comparisons to a Belgian superstar for his playing style. After impressing at the Under-19 European Championship, he has become a regular in the AZ first team. The teenager is widely expected to complete a big-money move this month. Newcastle United are believed to be leading the chase, but could face strong competition from Real Madrid for a signing valued at around twenty-two million pounds.
