Exactly 30 years after the first Toy Story film was released, launching the animation giant as a leading film company and introducing audiences to iconic figures like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.

In 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, providing a brief look into the storyline but leaving viewers wondering how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Frightens the Toys

In the teaser reveals Bonnie — who received Andy's toys when he grew up — receiving a brand new plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. She acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.

Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. However, the characters seem to view it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it likely will.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

An element the teaser doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is back with his friends in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (the actress), traveling with a fair and assisting giveaway items locate loving owners.

Certainly, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is a little strange, however. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have come back with him. And where is the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?

Connections from the Previous Film

At the very least, some elements are carrying over from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before setting off for his fresh path was hand over his symbol of authority to Jessie (the voice actor), entrusting her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip shows the insignia pinned to her outfit.
